Strange Lovers - new folk music woven with stories of unexpected love
Methera have embarked on an inspiring collaboration with the internationally acclaimed storyteller Mats Rehnman, a pioneer of the renaissance of the art form in his home country Sweden and a fond face on the British storytelling scene. Our show Strange Lovers is a concert of stories, marrying new compositions by Methera with Mats' collection of love stories with a twist. We aim to stretch the boundaries of normality in the unification of contemporary folk music and storytelling. In the process we have shed new light on Methera's ability to use voice, body language and movement on stage, and Mat's ability to find music and dance in his narrative. It's a fascinating journey for all of us!
Methera & Mats Rehnman had three rehearsal days in Cumbria in April, during which Methera invited Mats as a special guest at our concert in Appleby. Then the quintet got together again in May and had a final rehearsal day with some inspired direction from Tim Dalling. Strange Lovers had its premier at the Fiddles on Fire Festival at The Sage Gateshead on 5th May, and went down a storm. Read a review here.
We will soon be launching a Strange Lovers website with photos and video footage from the premier. Methera & Mats will next be meeting in October 2013, and Strange lovers will be appearing at festivals in summer 2014.
